Patrick was born in Texas and raised in Oklahoma.

He did his undergraduate studies at Rice University (B.S. in Computer Science and Math Sciences, 1987) and his graduate work at the University of Colorado (Ph.D. in Computer Science, Certificate in Cognitive Science, 1994). Patrick's doctoral research explored theories of human memory and amnesia.

He works half-time at CADSWES continuously since 1996.

Patrick's favorite activities outside work include, in no particular order: yoga, writing, helping, anything outside, anything with friends, reading, and pottery.
